Three days of activities, demonstrations and events mark unofficial start of 2013 hunting season in Magnolia State for hunters and outdoor enthusiasts

Jackson, Miss. (July 31, 2013) – Thousands of hunters and outdoor enthusiasts will get to discover the latest in hunting and fishing gear and methods at the 27th annual Mississippi Wildlife Extravaganza, which opens at 3 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 2 at the Mississippi Trade Mart.

The three-day show, which signals the unofficial start of the 2013 hunting season, will feature over 200 outdoor exhibitors across the U.S. and Canada with displays on the latest hunting and fishing gear, supplies and clothing along with a variety of how-to demonstrations, activities and programs.

Special events include the Magnolia Records Big Buck Contest on Friday and Saturday, the Cutest Camo Kids Contest at 2 p.m. on Sunday, youth archery all three days, and Hand-Grabbin’ Katfishin’ Kids where children are taught how to hand grab catfish.

Other special guests and demonstrations include Snakes of Mississippi by Terry Vandeventer, Talking Turkey with Preston Pittman, Turkey Calling Made Easy for Beginners by Paul Meek, Hawks with David Hall, The Basics of Bowfishing and Fetch Tub with Jason Reynolds and his High Flying Retrievers. Several programs have been designed especially for children.

The show also will feature Greg and Jake Miller, hosts of the popular “In Pursuit TV” hunting program, with demonstrations on hunting trophy whitetail deer.

The annual event is the Magnolia state’s largest wildlife exposition and the primary fundraiser for the non-profit Mississippi Wildlife Federation, the state’s largest and oldest private conservation education and advocacy organization.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children 6-13 with free admission for children 5 and under. Weekend passes are $20 per person and Friday is Kids Day where children 12 and under receive free admission. ‘Ganza hours are 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 4.
